15 Tips to declutter your entire home
Hello 2021
Cheers to a New Year! If you have been desperately waiting for this pandemic to be over, then welcome to the club. As I make the transition to pack our bags and get ready for our big move to Hawaii. This blog post will focus on how I stay on track and declutter my home with 3 kiddos under 4 years old.
Why
Moving can be quite an adjustment between settling into a new state and literally moving across the sea with three little babies. A cluttered space for me amplifies my anxiety and I just can’t focus. There is nothing more satisfying than having a clean and decluttered home. It took some time, but I know that I will be moving sometime this year. We are currently in the process of purchasing a home in Hawaii. I decided to tackle this project and declutter one room at a time, little by little. As a busy mom, the best approach was to pile everything all in one place.
How
What really worked for me was a mix of Marie Kondo and literally wanting to feel liberated by getting rid of everything I no longer needed. I was determined and I was honestly sick of the clutter. When you have children the less you have to pick up. Also teaching your kiddos to clean after themselves helps a ton but let’s be real, you are most likely the one that ends up organizing it at the end of a long day. I tend to keep minimal toys around and have a dedicated space for all of their stuff. Declutter
Make sure to drink a nice big of cup coffee and tackle each room at a time. Ok, let’s do this!

Here are my top decluttering hacks.
1. It’s a process and it does take time.
2. Start with one room at a time.
3. Make different piles – donate, sell, trash and keep.
4. Don’t hold on to clothes you don’t fit into.
5. Less is more. Don’t get attached to anything.
6. Get the kids involved.
7. Let’s talk about Make-up: throw it AWAY if purchased over a year ago. It does expire.
8. Books. GET RID OF THEM AND DONATE. Always opt for library or audibles. Keep a small stash of your favorite ones. I wrote a blog post about my favorite books of all time.
9. Get rid of the random cables and cords.
10. Paperwork. It’s 2020, if it’s important – scan it or take a picture. I know with an iphone you can make an album and name it personal. Don’t forget to sign up for paperless bills.
11. Oh that junk drawer.
12. Old Tupperware with missing lids, yep those get rid of them.
13. Get containers and bins to organize your accessories.
14. Morning/night routines – make bed, pick up kids toys, put dishes in the dishwasher.
15. Every item should have a home to avoid clutter.

[…] Declutter- Once in a while especially on my downtime, itβs the best time to DECLUTTER: and it feels great! From my computer files, house, personal relationships, etc. I look at files, people or just junk that are unnecessary and donate it or simply just remove from my life. Having a minimal lifestyle has been my number one goal for a long time and little by little itβs all coming together (thanks Simon + Jessica for the inspiration). Aloha Kenia! I found you on Instagram and I’m living in Hawaii also. Can you put together a list where you mostly shop sustainable? It’s hard because shipping here from the mainland is super expensive. Any tips and tricks you know? Thank you so much. Janet
